Party Snacks for Everyone

Eating, or in this case snacking, makes up a big part of how we socialize. Having food available at any type of social gathering affects how people will interact with each other. Having snacks available at a party you are hosting can be quite important.

Deciding what to offer your guests can be difficult, especially so if you are having a larger get together or are not closely associated with all your guests. The exception might be a themed party where your guests should expect a particular variety of snacks. There are so many things to consider, the key is to have a good variety of party snacks that everyone can enjoy. It' ok to have a few unique or unusual snacks, I even recommend it to add some flare to your party. The majority of snacks however, should be something your guests don't need to enquire about before digging in.

Religious, cultural, dietary needs or restrictions is something a lot of hosts overlook. Aside from that, some guests might not be as adventurous with their food as you are or have a lower tolerance for certain spices and flavors. For smaller, personal social functions you'll likely be forgiven should you make poor party snack decisions. At least, I hope so if your guests are close friends and family. Work parties, professional events or any large party that includes guests you may not know well are occasions where you should be a lot more conscious of the snacks you put out.

Choosing Party Snacks

Choosing healthy snacks is a good start. Your guests will appreciate your consideration. Anyone can eat a healthy snack, but not everyone can or will eat something a little less than healthy. Definitely include some of these forbidden snacks, it is a party after all, just don't let it be the only options. Healthy fruit-based snacks are likely to have a broader taste acceptance. Fruits are delicious and naturally sweet. Even if a guest has never tried a particular fruit, they are likely to give it a try and will probably like it. Having snacks that are Kosher and Halal will ensure all your guests will have an opportunity to grab a snack and won't have to leave feeling peckish or left-out.

Put together a good variety of party snacks. Not just in terms of taste but types of snacks as well. Having twelve flavors of potato chips is not a good example of snack variety. Your guests will also be enjoying different beverages, having a good selection of snacks ensures they can compliment their drinks with an appropriate bite.

Party Snack Ideas

  • Fruits - Be sure to cut fruit into snacking portions. There are plenty of options for dips that go well with fruit.
  • Vegetables - Set vegetable out on platters and supply a variety of tasty dips.
  • Crackers & Spreads - Healthy crackers and an assortment of dips. Hummus, tzatziki and guacamole are a good start but there are endless possibilities.
  • Cheese & Cold Cuts - Have crackers or small breads nearby. You might consider keeping the meat and cheese separate, depending on your guest list.
  • Crisps & Chips - Oh So Healthy! Crisps go well with any occasion. Add a couple healthy choices for variety and have dip set out.
  • Pasteries & Baked Goods - Muffins, cupcakes and croissants are great choices for midday get-togethers.
  • Nuts & Trail Mixes - Put out a few bowls and be sure to have a variety of these favorites. Hands might be ok at family function but will turn off most other guests. Supply a scoop and cocktail napkins for small snacks in bowls.
  • Sandwiches - Have a variety of sandwiches, cut into triangles and arranged on platters. Use different platters for meats.

Almost anything can be a snack. How you portion and present food will ultimately be the difference so your options are unlimited. For most get-togethers, snacks, though necessary, are set out as a courtesy. Most of the time they're not intended to be the focus of the occasion but are always appreciated by guests. Be sure to put out some healthy snacks for your guests but don't feel the need to go too far out of your way, as long as you have some variety. Choose snacks that are more appropriate for the occasion and time of day. And most importantly, have a good time. You might be the host but there's no reason you can't also be a guest at your own party.
